Gingerich Miller was born near Kalona in Johnson County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Amos J. and Elizabeth Brenneman Gingerich. She attended East Lincoln School. In her youth, she was baptized, and was a member of the Sharon Bethel Church. Esther and Chris M. Miller were united in marriage, on November 24, 1932 in Johnson County. Esther had many interests that included piecing quilts, flowers, baking, making scrapbooks and especially spending time with family and friends. Esther suffered a stroke in December of 2002 and was diagnosed with cancer in July of 2009. Esther is survived by five children: Edna (Wallace) Borntrager, Oren Dale (Emma) Miller, Ellen Miller all of Kalona and Norman (Elma) Miller of Middlebury, IN, and Lilly (John H.) Miller, of Kalona. Also surviving are a son-in-law, Calvin M. Yoder of Kalona, 21 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and a sister, Edna Beachy of Stevensport, KY, She was preceded in death by her husband Chris of 70 years, on August 3, 2003, daughter, Erma Yoder, 4 sisters, Barbara Miller, Katie Miller, Lena Bender, Cora Gingerich and 4 brothers, Chris, Joe, Omar and Willard Gingerich. A memorial fund has been established for Iowa City Hospice The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to those who have been so supportive of them with your prayers, visits and other acts of kindness during Esther's illness and in the loss of their loved one. When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced! Live your life in such a manner that when you die the world will cry and you rejoice!
