ERIC ROBERT GIETZ, Jan 11, 1946 - Jan 2025

Eric died and went home to be with the Lord at his home in Kalona, Iowa. His body was cremated and no formal service is planned at this time.

Eric was born January 11, 1946, in Hamilton, Ontario, the son of Edmund and Rosina (Mayer) Gietz. He was married to Sharon Wilson in 1984, and they divorced in 1996.

Eric was a graduate of the University of Windsor in Windsor, Ontario and of Ontario Teachers College. He taught elementary school and later took up the trade of interior and exterior house painting in the employ of Jay Montgomery in Kalona. He travelled throughout Canada and the United States, and enjoyed skiing, golfing, boating and social gatherings to which he brought fun, good cheer, and humor. Eric was optimistic, generous, and kind; he loved the Lord and he loved people.

He was the beloved brother of Marnie Gietz and Edmund Gietz and dear cousin of Paul Severn and Carla Matthews. Fondly remembered as the brother-in-law of Barbara Gietz and Christine Gietz and uncle of Laura (Ken) Jones, Matthew Gietz, Ellen (Roger) Thyen, and Deborah (Heath) DeWeber. Fondly remembered as a stepfather to Christine (Joe) Roselund and Naomi (Mike) Sands and a grandfather to Elizabeth, Tony, Justice, Joslyn, and Archer.

Preceded in death by parents Edmund and Rosina, brother Richard (Barbara), aunt and uncle Barbara and Roman Severn, and cousin Mark Severn.

Thanks and much appreciation go out to Christine Roselund for graciously making arrangements with the Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home and for dealing with Eric's remaining material possessions. And to Jay Montgomery who was not only his employer but also his friend.

"And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love."

1 Corinthians 13:13
