Emery John Wenger, 92 of Swedesburg, IA died Sunday, November 26, 2006 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a short illness.
Funeral services have been set for 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church with Pastor Nathan Luitjens officiating. Burial will be in the Sugar Creek Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM Monday at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church with family receiving friends from 6-8:00 in the evening. Beatty Funeral Home in Wayland is assisting with arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorials may be designated to the Gideon’s International or the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church.
Emery was born March 5, 1914 in Washington Co. Iowa the son of David and Kathryn (Roth) Wenger. He was united in marriage to Mary Dorothy Roth, November 26, 1936 in Seward County, Nebraska.
Emery greatly loved the Lord and was a member of Sugar Creek Mennonite Church. For forty years he pastored at Pleasant Point Community Church. He was an energetic farmer and avid reader all of his life. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were a great source of joy.
Survivors include son David and Arlene Wenger of Wayland; three daughters Mildred and Keith Gingerich of North English, IA, Beulah and Gerald Steiner of Burbank, OH and Mary and Mark Heading of Wooster, OH; two sisters, Mary Wyse of Kalona, IA and Martha Roth of Wayland; ten grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers, Orie, Glen and Daniel, sister Elizabeth Sutter and great-granddaughter Brenna Wenger.
