Funeral services for Elva Bender, 95, of Kalona will be held Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at 10:30 AM at the Kalona Christian Fellowship Church with Pastor Larry Rediger officiating. Burial will follow at the East Union Cemetery in rural Kalona. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 18, from 5 – 8 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for the Kalona Christian Fellowship Church. Elva Bender died Sunday, August 16, 2015 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona.
Elva Bender was born April 21, 1920 in Exland, Wisconsin, the daughter of Harvey and Anna (Miller) Bender. She was a seamstress and a member of the Kalona Christian Fellowship Church. Elva enjoyed quilt piecing, gardening, and in her younger years, weaving rugs. She taught a class of young girls how to sew, and after she was unable to piece quilts herself she began cutting quilt blocks for others. Elva always found work to do and enjoyed staying busy.
Survivors include one brother: John Bender of Kalona, a number of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Preceding Elva in death were her parents, one brother, David Bender, and three sisters: Mary Yoder, Lydia Swantz and Martha Stoddard.
