Elmer Helmuth

Funeral services for Elmer A. Helmuth, 78, of Kalona, will be held Thursday, October 14, 2021, at 9:30 AM at the Elson Miller residence, 2080 110th Street, Kalona.  Burial will follow at the North Gingerich Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 12, beginning at 3:00 PM, and Wednesday, October 13, beginning at 10:30 AM, all at the Elson Miller residence. Elmer passed away peacefully at his home following an apparent heart attack on Monday, October 11, 2021.

Elmer A. Helmuth was born October 8, 1943, in rural Kalona, the son of Andy C. and Fannie (Yoder) Helmuth.  He was a faithful member of the Old Order Amish Church until his death.  On October 28, 1965, he was united in marriage to Ida Hochstedler.

Survivors include his wife Ida of Kalona; six children: Paul (Carol) Helmuth of Milford, IN, Eileen (Arlen) Mullet of Rochester, IN, Marilyn (Lynn) Borntrager and Mark (Kathryn) Helmuth both of Kalona, Ruth (Nathan) Yoder of Little Suamico, WI, and Nona (Toby) Miller of Kalona; 32 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother Leon Helmuth of Windsor, MO, five sisters: Susie (Jake) Ropp, Verna (Wilbur) Ropp, Mary Jane (Norman) Ropp all of Kalona, Dorothy (Cecil) Ropp of Ava, IL, and Ruth Anna (Mahlon) Mast of Kalona.

Preceding Elmer in death were his parents, one sister-in-law Mary Helmuth, two grandchildren: Ray Evan Yoder and Christian Miller.

Elmer passed away peacefully at his home following an apparent heart attack on Monday, October 11, 2021.
