Ella May Smith, 88 of Burlington, formally of Mt. Pleasant and Salem, died Friday, April 02, 2004 at the Burlington Care Center.
Funeral Services have been set for 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 4, 2004 at the Beatty Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Tom Palmer officiating. Burial will be in the Richwood Cemetery. Visitation will begin at Noon Saturday at the Beatty Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6-8:00 in the evening. Memorials in the name of Ella May Smith may be designated to the Salem Community Center or the Richwood Cemetery.
Ella May was born November 26, 1915 in Des Moines Co, Iowa the daughter of Albert and Bessie (Bandy) Watson. She was schooled at Charter Oaks School. On November 26, 1937 she was united in marriage to Iliff Smith at the Baptist parsonage in Mt. Pleasant.
Ella May was of the Protestant faith and was a member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliary. She was an active volunteer at the Trolley barn with the Midwest Old Threshers for thirty years. She and her husband operated Smith Market for many years in Salem.
Survivors include two sons, John A. Smith and wife Linda of Burlington, IA and Raymond Smith and wife LeNell of Gillette, WY; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, sister and an infant son.
