Eldred Earl Berkshire, 90 of Wayland, died last Wednesday, July 27, 2005 at the Parkview Home in Wayland.
Memorial Services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 6, 2005 at the Wayland Mennonite Church with Pastor Don Johanson officiating. The body has been cremated and interred at the North Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials for the North Hill Cemetery, which may be mailed to Jean Roth, P.O. Box 275, Wayland, Iowa 52654. Beatty Funeral Home of Wayland is assisting with arrangements.
Mr. Berkshire was born March 15, 1915 in Washington, County, Iowa the son of Earl and Hazel (Leffler) Berkshire. He was united in marriage to Marie Kauffman in September 12 1942, she preceded him in death June 4, 1988.
Mr. Berkshire graduated from Crawfordsville High School and had degrees from Chaffey Jr. College, Ontario, CA, University of Northern Iowa and the University of Iowa. He also attended the University of Colorado at Bolder. He taught at Eldora, Oakville and Fairfield, IA and was superintendent at Wayland before moving to Burlington in 1950. Eldred was Elementary School Principal at the Burlington Community Schools from 1950 till 1980, when he retired. Eldred was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include son Stephen Berkshire and wife Loretta of Austin, AR and granddaughter Jennifer Peters and husband Ron and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marie, brother Wayne and sister Jan Haberman.
