Eileen Hammen, 90 of Washington, died Thursday, June 23, 2011 at the Washington County Hospital.
A Memorial Mass will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at St. James Catholic Church with Fr. Troy Richmond officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Tobin Center next to the Church. Her body has been donated to the University of Iowa Deed Body Program and burial of her cremains will occur later at the Elm Grove Cemetery. Beatty Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Memorials in the name of Eileen Hammen may be designated to St. James Catholic Church.
Eileen was born January 10, 1921 in Keota, IA the daughter of Albert and Anna (Redlinger) Hammen. She graduated from St. Elizabeth High School in Harper and the Ottumwa College of Cosmetology.
She was a volunteer at the Washington County Hospital, Red Cross and Social Services for the handicap.
She was a life long member of the St. James Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters and Alter and Rosary Society.
She was a beautician for many years at various salons in Washington.
She enjoyed calligraphy, knitting, reading, singing in the choir at church and travel.
She is survived by two sisters, Virginia Chamberlin of Washington and Jeanette Besser of Harper; brother Keith Hammen and wife Mary of Muscatine; two nephews, Joe and Jim Hammen; three nieces Cindy Welter, Becky Frederick and Jeanne Turner; many great nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, second mother Teresa, two brother-in-laws, Dallas Chamberlin and William Besser and niece Mary Christine.
