Edna Schantz

Funeral services for Edna M. Schantz, 89 of Washington will be held Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 10:00AM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Kelly Allard officiating. Burial will follow in the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will be held Friday, March 19 from noon – 7PM at the Beatty Funeral Home where the family will greet friends from 4-7PM. A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Washington County. Edna died Tuesday, March 16 at the Washington County Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Edna was born February 2, 1921 in Lexington, Iowa the daughter of Carson Wade and Oma Belle (Wilson) Wilson. She was united in marriage to Elmer Miller Schantz on August 27, 1936 in Tennessee. She worked as a dietician and kitchen manager at the Washington Care Center for many years. Edna enjoyed cooking, music, sewing, visiting with friends and family and flower gardening.

Survivors include three daughters, Dorothy Shafer of Washington, IA, Patricia Jean (Bill) Pepper of Mexico, MO, Marjorie Koehler of Keota, IA, 13 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and two sisters, Nima McClelland of Washington, IA and Ethyle Schultz of Kalona, IA.

Preceding Edna in death were her parents, her husband, two sons, Wayne Willard Schantz and Glen Arnold Schantz, and three brothers and four sisters.
