Earl Fry

A celebration of life for Earl D. Fry, 87, of Kalona will be held Monday, June 8, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Kalona United Christian and Baptist Church.  His body will be donated to the Univeristy of Iowa Anatomy Department following the service.  Visitation will be held Sunday, June 7, from 2 – 5 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona.  A memorial fund has been established for the United Christian and Baptist Church and the Kalona Historical Society.  Earl Fry died Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona.

Earl Duane Fry was born February 15, 1928 in Johnson County, the son of George V. And Nellie (Crow) Fry.  He graduated from Kalona High School and enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country in the Korean War.  On June 7, 1949 he was united in marriage to Norma Sleichter. Norma died November 16, 2009.  Earl married Jeane (Stout) Rich Ellinger on April 10, 2010.   Earl was the Postmaster at the Kalona Post Office for 42 years.  He was a member and Deacon of the United Christian and Baptist Church, a past member of the Kalona Rotary Club, the Kalona Optimist Club and the Kalona Historical Society.  He enjoyed tending the roses at the Historical Village and did that for many years.  He also enjoyed fishing in Canada and sang with the Old Capitol Barbershop Quartet.

Survivors include his wife Jeane of Kalona, two sons, Bryan (Pam) Fry and David Fry both of North Liberty, three grandchildren: Jason (Kathleen) Fry, Jeremy (Jamie) Fry, Lindsey (Travis) Wendling, five great grandchildren: Katelyn, Kirstin and Jacob Fry and Colin and Isabelle Wendling, two brothers: George E. Fry of Kalona, Daryl Fry of Florida, and one sister, Delores Paulsen of Iowa City.

Preceding Earl in death were his parents, his wife Norma, two sisters: Alene and Vera and one brother, Arlo Fry.
