Earl Bachman

Earl A. Bachman, 90 of Wayland, died Saturday, September 1, 2007 at the Parkview Home in Wayland.

Funeral Services have been set for 10:30 Thursday, September 6, 2007 at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church with Pastor Nathan Luitjens officiating. Burial will be in the Sugar Creek Cemetery. Visitation will begin at Noon Wednesday at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church with family receiving friends from 6-8:00. Beatty Funeral Home of Wayland is assisting with arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be designated to the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church.

Earl was born December 27, 1916 in Cazenovia, IL the son of Arthur and Ida (Sutter) Bachman. He was united in marriage to Frieda Hirschy, September 2, 1938 in Wayland, IA.

He was a faithful member of Sugar Creek Mennonite Church and was a life long farmer. Earl took great pride in setting a corn husking record of 271 bushels in 10 1/2 hours in October of 1939, which may well remain the world record.

He loved his family and enjoyed visits with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always interested in what was going on in their lives.

Survivors include his wife Frieda of Wayland, sons, William A. Bachman of Mt. Pleasant and Doyle E. Bachman and wife Irene of Wayland; daughter Kathleen A. Showalter of Mt. Pleasant; brother Louis Bachman and wife Bernice of Normal, IL; sisters Violet Davis and husband Donald of Hopedale, IL and Ethel Letwiller and husband Elmer of Hopedale, IL; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Dale Showalter, daughter-in-law Joyce Bachman and three sisters, Betty, Dorothy and Verna.
