A celebration of life for Dwain L. Tschantz, 83 of Washington will be held Friday, January 6, 2012 at 10:00AM at the United Methodist Church in Washington with Pastor Jim Stiles officiating. Burial will follow at the North Hill Cemetery in rural Wayland. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 5 from noon to 7PM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington, where the family will greet friends from 5-7PM. A memorial fund has been established for the Good Samaritan Fund at the Halcyon House and the Washington United Methodist Church music fund. Dwain Tschantz died Monday, January 2, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City surrounded by his family.
Dwain Tschantz was born on November 5, 1928 in Washington, Iowa the son of Theodore and Adaline Tschantz. He was united in marriage to Virginia Myers on August 19, 1951. He served in the United States Navy from 1949 – 1952, and barbered for 42 years in Washington before retiring in 1994. Dwain was a member of the Washington United Methodist Church where he enjoyed singing in the church choir. He also enjoyed playing cards, attending coffee club, and performing in Washington Community Theater productions. He was a member of the Washington Choral Society and was an avid Cardinals fan.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Virginia of Washington, three sons, Michael (Jan) Tschantz of Iowa City, Rusty (Denise) Tschantz of Washington, Kendall Tschantz of Washington, one brother, Gale (Margot) Tschantz of Dallas, TX, one sister, Marlene (Bob) Hesseltine of Iowa City, six grandchildren, Chad Pepper, Melissa Turner, Trevor Tschantz, Elizabeth Tschantz, Luke Tschantz, Molly Tschantz, and eight great-grandchildren, Cashden, Ryen and Teage Pepper, Ada and Hudson Turner, Sawyer and Parker Tschantz, and Easton Davis.
Preceding Dwain in death were his parents and one brother, James Tschantz.
