A celebration of life for Duane H. Alliman, 82 of Wayland will be held Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the Independent Bible Church in Wayland, with Pastor Robert Wolf officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Cottonwood Cemetery in rural Wayland. Visitation will be held Monday, November 12 from noon until 7PM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington, where the family will greet friends from 4 – 7 PM. Duane Alliman died Sunday, November 11, 2012 at the Parkview Home in Wayland as a result of complications of Alzheimer's Disease. A memorial fund has been established for the Parkview Home and the Independent Bible Church.
Duane Henry Alliman was born September 23, 1930 in Henry County, Iowa the son of William D. And Lydia Mae (Neff) Alliman. He graduated from Wayland High School in 1949. He served in the United States Navy from January of 1951 to October of 1954 during which time the U.S. was involved in the Korean Conflict. As a result of his inablitiy to get leave, he was married to his high school sweetheart, Erma Davison on July 3, 1951 in Key West, Florida.
After returning from the Navy, Duane went to barber school in Des Moines, Iowa. He owned and operated his own shop in Winfield, Iowa from 1960 to1970. In 1970, he accepted the position of Administrator of the Parkview Nursing Home in Wayland, Iowa until retiring from there in 1990.
He was an active member of the Independent Bible Church and over the years served in many capacities. Among those were board member, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher and youth leader. Duane enjoyed traveling with his wife, Erma. He also loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren. Some of the hobbies Duane enjoyed in his free time were woodworking which included making furniture and refinishing antiques. He also enjoyed clock making, fishing and camping. Duane was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Erma of Wayland, two daughters, Adelee (Michael) Drake of Florence, Colorado, Julia (Timothy) Barta of Hiawatha, Iowa, two sons, Douglas (Julie) Alliman of Wichita, Kansas, Randall (Kay) Alliman of Biggsville, Illinois, seven grandsons and one granddaughter, five great grandchildren and two sisters, Betty (Paul) Brewer of Muscatine, Iowa and Wanda (Allard) Nayadley of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Preceding Duane in death were his parents, one son, Lonn Alliman and one brother, William (Billy) Alliman, Jr.
