Doyle Brown

Doyle Brown, 99 of Washington, died, Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at the McCreedy Home.

Services have been set for 10:00 AM, Monday July 15, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Washington, with Pastor Daryl Carr officiating.  Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will be held Sunday July 14, 2019 from 3-6:00 PM at the church. A general memorial fund has been established. The Beatty Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Doyle Nelson Brown was born May 4, 1920 in Washington, Iowa the son of Clarence and Clara (Palm) Brown. He was united in marriage to Helen Baker on December 18, 1940 in Washington. Doyle served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the South Pacific.  Doyle worked for Roe Heating from 1950-1972 then for Brown Heating and Cooling from 1972-1978, and owned and operated Doyle’s service center from 1978 until he retired. During retirement Doyle and Helen managed the Autumn Park apartments from 1981-1992. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and served as an elder for many years.  Doyle was a member of the Odd Fellow’s Lodge, served on the Patient Advocate Board at McCreedy Home and was a member of the Singing Grandpas. Doyle enjoyed playing pool, he played for over 35 years and had the Y pool room named, Brown Billiards room. Doyle enjoyed dancing and spending time with his family.

Survivors include three daughters, Phyllis Hazelett of Washington, Lois Lemley and special friend Don McAvoy of Washington, and Betty Jo Hamil and special friend Gary Dawson of Washington, three brothers, Kenneth (Martha) Brown of Mt. Pleasant, Clarence (Pauline) Brown of Washington, and Dale (Joyce) Brown of Jackson, MO, 9 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren.

Doyle was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen in 2007, sisters Virginia Paxton, Josephine Mullikin, Leila Mullikin, brother Burl Brown.
