A celebration of life for Douglas W. Morgan, 66 of Kalona will be held Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at 2:30PM at the Kalona United Methodist Church in Kalona with Pastor Gerry Kahler officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona. Visitation will be held Monday, May 14 from 2-4 and 6-8PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. Memorials in Doug's name may be made to the Kalona United Methodist Church, Kalona Scout Pack 234 or the Richmond AMVET Post #107. Doug Morgan died Thursday, May 10, 2012 at the University of Iowa Hospital following a battle with a blood disease.
Douglas Walker Morgan was born March 18, 1946 in Hamilton, Ohio the son of Harry and Bertha (DeBord) Morgan. He was a member of 4-H and for two years he had the Grand Championship Beef at the Butler County Fair. Doug graduated from Seven Mile High School and received a Bachelors Degree in Agriculture Economics from Ohio State University. While at Ohio State he was a member of the Delta Theta Sigma Fraternity where he served as treasurer and was named Outstanding Brother of the Year his senior year. In 1968 he was drafted into the United States Army where he served in the Vietnam War until 1970 and received the Bronze Star. He was united in marriage to Barbara Henrich on February 10, 1975 at the 1 st Baptist Church in Ft. Dodge, Iowa. Doug was the area manager at Cennox Land O Lakes for 17 years and city administrator for the city of Kalona for 15 years. He was a member of the Kalona United Methodist Church, the Optimist Club of Kalona, the Kalona Rotary Club, the League of Cities and AMVET Post #107. Doug spent many hours as a WEBELO and Boy Scout leader and especially enjoyed the High Adventure trips with the scouts. He loved to fish and spend time with his family. He was an avid sports fan and often remarked that when Ohio State and Iowa played, he was always a winner.
Survivors include his wife Barb of Kalona, son Matt of West Chester, granddaughter Makynna, one sister, Mary Jo Macko of Greenville, SC, sister in law, Ann Morgan of Eaton, OH, three brother in laws, Ed (Ruth) Henrich of Osceola, IA, Don (Helen) Henrich of Merrill, IA, Duane (Ellen) Henrich of IL, three sisters in law, Jane Dimig of LaMars, IA, Betty (Don) Cox of West Des Moines, IA, Delores (Karl) Hering of Omaha, NE, and a number of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Preceding Doug in death were his parents, one sister, Doris Schaney and one brother Fred Morgan.
