A celebration of life for Dorothy M. Rodgers, 87, of Muscatine, formerly of Kalona, will be held Monday, October 24, 2016 at 10:30 am at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona with Pastor Eddie Cabrera officiating. Burial will follow at the Richmond Public Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 23 from 3-6 pm at the Peterseim Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established for the Special Community at the Lutheran Society Homes in Muscatine, where Dorothy lived at the time of her passing on Wednesday, October 19, 2016.
Dorothy Mae (Vodicka) Rodgers was born April 3, 1929 in Richmond, Iowa, the daughter of Van and Dillie (Blakley) Vodicka. She graduated from Kalona High School. On February 14, 1951, Dorothy and Dale Rodgers were united in marriage at the First United Methodist Church in Iowa City. Dorothy was employed as a clerk in many clothing stores in Iowa City and retired from the University of Iowa where she worked in the dance department. She was a member of the Kalona United Methodist Church and later joined the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Muscatine, and was a member of the Women of the Moose, Iowa City Lodge. She enjoyed watching WWE, Iowa Hawkeyes basketball and being around little children.
Survivors include three children: Judy (Dave) Paul of Muscatine, IA., Jane (Robert) Boughner of Albany, OR., Barb (Jim) Fackler of Harrisburg, KY., one granddaughter Jennifer Rodgers and one great granddaughter Jessie Rodgers, and other extended family members.
Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents and her husband Lloyd Dale on April 22, 1990.
