Dorothy F. Miller, 89, of Kalona, formerly of Illinois, died Sunday, April 12, 2020 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona from complications of Congestive Heart Failure. The family will hold a private service on Wednesday, April 15. Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will be having public services at a later time. A memorial fund has been established for the Pleasantview Home Building Fund, Hospice of Iowa City and the Arthritis Association.
Dorothy Fay (Curless) Clanin-Miller was born July 9, 1930 in Peoria, Illinois, the daughter of Dewey and Josephine (Schafer) Curless. Dorothy graduated from Woodruff High School in Peoria. She was united in marriage to Edwin Clanin on July 10, 1948. After his death she was united in marriage to Harvey Miller on December 2, 2006. In October of 2014 Dorothy moved to Kalona and quickly began to fit into the community and formed many wonderful friendships. She was a member of the Kalona United Methodist Church and the Alpha Club of Kalona. Dorothy enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing and church activities. Her family was very important to her, and her grandchildren were her life. Dorothy was a beautiful soul that loved God with a servant’s heart.
Survivors include three children: Clifford (Vickie) Clanin of Maryville, IL, Sheila Scott of Parker, CO, and Sandra (Fred) Whaley of Kalona, IA; two grandchildren: Jeremy (Melissa) Clanin of O’Fallon, IL, and Heather (Lucas) Keith of O’Fallon, MO; and five great-grandchildren.
Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents, her husband Edwin Clanin, husband Harvey Miller, an infant grandson, six siblings: Jack Curless, Charles Curless, Roger Curless, Pauline Downing, Charlotte Burke, and Corinne Graham, and a son-in-law Ken Scott.
