A celebration of life for Dorothy Hinkle, 88 of Wayland, will be held Friday, December 19, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the Independent Bible Church in Wayland with Pastors Bob Wolf and Larry Wagner officiating. Burial will follow at Cottonwood Cemetery. Visitation will be heldThursday, December 18 at the Independent Bible Church from noon until 7PM with the family present from 5 -7 PM. A memorial fund has been established for the Independent Bible Church, Parkview Home and Hospice of Compassus. Dorothy Hinkle died Monday, December 15, 2014 at the Parkview Home in Wayland.

Dorothy Marie (Davison) (Wagner) Hinkle was born August 15, 1926 in Washington, IA the daughter of Homer and Addie (Neff) Davison. She graduated from Wayland High School in 1944 and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, IA. Dorothy taught in a one room school house for two years. In 1946 she married Leo K. Wagner and was a homemaker and farm wife until December of 1964, when they moved to town and she began working as a cook at the Wayland elementary school. In 1974 – 1975 Leo and Dorothy moved to Ware Shoals, SC where they were house parents at the Shiloh Boys Ranch. When they returned to Wayland, Dorothy operated a preschool out of their home. Leo died in February of 1980.

On June 19, 1981 she was united in marriage to John C. Hinkle. John and Dorothy were faithful members of the Independent Bible Church, where she taught Sunday school and served as missionary treasurer and he was a deacon. For many years, they picked up neighbor children and brought them to church.

Dorothy enjoyed reading, quilting, sewing, gardening, cooking and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband John of Wayland, three children: Linda Boulton of Wayland, Les (Sandy) Wagner of Kansas City, KS, Larry (Marcia) Wagner of Bonaparte, IA, two step children: Gary Hinkle of Bremen, IN, Steven (Joanne) Hinkle of Trenton, IA, eight grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, one brother, Jim Davison of Kalona, IA, and three sisters: Allie Guengerich of Harrisburg, VA, Phyllis Graber and Erma Alliman of Wayland, IA.

Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents, her husband Leo, four brothers: Dale, Arthur, Kenny and Dean Davison and great grandson, Benjamin Nightengale.
