Dorothy Farmer, 85 of Wayland, died Monday, March 22, 2004 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Funeral Services have been set for 10:30 A.M. Friday, March 26, 2004 at the Wayland United Methodist Church with Pastor Nancy Renfro officiating. Burial will be in the Wayland Cemetery. Visitation will begin at Noon Thursday at the Wayland United Methodist Church with family receiving friends from 6-8:00 P.M. Beatty Funeral Home of Wayland is assisting with the arrangements. Memorials in the name of Dorothy Farmer have been established to the Parkview Home or the Wayland Cemetery Assoc.
Dorothy was born March 14, 1919 in Brighton, Iowa the daughter of Charles Herman and Hattie Amelia (Shaffer) Kessel. She graduated from Brighton High School and received her teacher’s certificate. On September 4, 1937 she was united in marriage to LaVerne Thurston Farmer at Memphis, Missouri.
Dorothy was an active member of the Wayland United Methodist Church serving as secretary, treasurer, teaching Sunday school and a member of United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Wayland Saddle Club, Wayland Study Club, Mary Eights Card Club and a Cub Scout den mother. She enjoyed quilting, puzzles, playing cards and dancing.
Survivors include six children, Keith Farmer and wife Linda of Iowa City, Beverly Moore of Iowa City, Francis Farmer and wife Zelda of Fort Dodge, Ia, Terry Farmer and wife Karen of Wayland, Lynn Farmer and wife Vickie of Cedar Rapids, Ia and William Farmer and wife Diana of Brighton, Ia; two sisters Merna Robison and Jean Singleton, both of Washington; sixteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband September 11, 1994, two grandchildren and a daughter-in-law.
