Dorothy Evans

A celebration of life for Dorothy (Schwerin) Evans, 81, of Dallas City, IL, formerly of Wayland, will be held Friday, May 4, 2012 at 2:00PM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Wayland, with Pastor Betsey Neipert officiating. The body will be cremated following the service. Visitation will be held from 11:30 until the time of service, with the family present from 1:00PM until service time. A memorial fund has been established for Finley Cemetery and Lee County Hospice.

Dorothy Jane Piper was born November 22, 1930 in Burlington, Iowa the daughter of Justus E. And Esther (Condon) Piper. She graduated from New London High School and in 1950 she was united in marriage to James Scott. The couple later divorced. She lived and worked as a legal and managerial secretary in Mt. Pleasant. In 1970 she married Warren Schwerin and the couple lived in Wayland. Warren preceded Dorothy in death on January 18, 1998. In April of 2003 she was married to Paul Evans and the couple lived in Laurie, MO until Paul preceded her in death in 2009. Dorothy moved to Dallas City, IL in 2011 and lived with her daughter Monica and Alan Nichols until her death on May 1, 2012.

She was a member of the Olds Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed flower gardening, crocheting, crossword puzzles, word games and spending time with her family. Dorothy also thoroughly enjoyed her part in the Wayland Christmas light festivities.

Survivors include her daughter Cynthia (Duayne) Seberg of rural Mt. Pleasant, IA, son Shannon and wife Lori Schwerin of Mt. Pleasant, son Mitchell Schwerin of Laurie, MO, daughter Monica and husband Alan Nichols of Dallas City, IL, 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents, two brothers, Robert and Charles Piper and spouses, Warren F. Schwerin and Paul G. Evans.
