Donald Frederick Wyse, 76 of rural Washington, died Thursday, November 17, 2005 at his home following a short illness.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 21, 2005 at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with Ilene Schnicker officiating. Burial will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery. Visitation will begin at Noon Sunday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with family receiving friends from 2-4:00 in the afternoon. Memorials in the name of Donald Wyse may be designated to Hospice of Washington County or the American Lung Association.
Pallbearers are Jeromy Greiner, Ryan Greiner, Travis Swift, Jeff Huber, Perry Schnicker, Danny Janecek and Kyle Janecek. Honorary Pallbearers are Lynn McConnell, Wayne Hyde, Gene Anderson, David Horsey, Russell Whitaker and Ed Boone.
Don was born September 29, 1929 in Wayland, Iowa the only son of Hubert and Emily (Speidel) Wyse. He was graduated from Wayland High School in 1947. On November 23, 1949 he was united in marriage to Rozena Mae Christner at the home of her parents Sam and Ethel Christner north of Washington.
Don and Rozena live their entire married life in the Wayland/Washington area. For their first eight years they lived in Wayland. They moved to Don’s grandfather Speidel’s farm and then to his parents farm in 1962 where they now live.
When Don was a senior in high school, he drove a school bus for the Wayland School and later for WACO and Washington. He served as Mayer and a Councilman of Wayland. He was also a member of the Washington Farm Bureau. In the late 60’s and 70’s he owned and operated a plumbing shop in Brighton, as well as worked as a farmer on the family farm.
Don loved sports, played basketball and baseball when in high school. After his marriage he bowled in Mt. Pleasant and Washington as well as played fast pitch softball until he was 40. He was Donavan’s Babe Ruth Baseball Coach in Washington and too the team to the semi-finals.
Don grew up in the town of Wayland and after marriage he started farming with his grandfather Speidel. He had a deep love for his grandfather and farming which was his main occupation. He often told his family about the sayings and advice his grandfather Speidel had given him.
He had a strong love and affection for his wife, children and grandchildren. He was always looking for them to come home, wondering what they were doing if one did not show up.
H was a gifted conversationalist and never met a stranger, always had a joke to tell his family. He had a love for travel but never wanted to go for more than a few weeks at a time. There was no place better than home to him. He will always be remembered for his friendliness and love of life.
Family include his wife Rozena, his three daughter, Tanya Kay Greiner and husband Earl of Richland, IA, Shelda (Shelly) Renee Swift and husband Tim of Washington and Dawnell Ray Doreo and husband Keith of Riverside, IA; son Donavan Scott Wyse of Washington; sister Darlene McCoy of Hiawatha, IA; grandchildren Jeromy Greiner, Ryan Greiner, Terra Huber, Travis Swift, Stephanie Doreo and Kelsey Doreo; great grandson Brayden Greiner.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
