Donald Brockway

April 18, 1925 — September 9, 2004

Donald Earl Brockway, 79 of Wayland, died Thursday, September 09, 2004 at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City.

Graveside Services have been set for 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 11, 2004 at the Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant with military rites. Rev. Keith Haerer of the Faith Lutheran Church will be officiating. Open Visitation will be from Noon till 6:00 P.M. Friday and 9:00 a.m. till Noon Saturday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Wayland. A memorial in the name of Donald Brockway has been established.

Don was born April 18, 1925 in Oakville, Iowa the son of Fred and Florence (Miller) Brockway. He attended Mediapolis School and joined the Navy in September of 1942 where he served on the USS Merrimac in the Pacific theater of WWII. He was united in marriage to Ruby Rudat, April 21, 1946 at the Faith Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant.

Don attended Faith Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant and was employed at J.I. Case, Firestone, WACO school district, drove a truck for several years, Wal-Mart and retired from Bluebird in Mt. Pleasant after working their for ten years. Ruby and Don lived in Michigan and Colorado before moving to Wayland in 1974. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife Ruby of Wayland, son, Charles “Chuck” Brockway of Des Moines, daughter Kriss Smith and husband Mike of Belle Plains, IA; three brothers, Carl Brockway of Missouri, Marshall Brockway of Burlington and Marvin Brockway of Burlington; three sisters, Ruth Weisel of Tucson, AZ, Evelyn Brockway of Tucson, AZ and Arlene Kuntz of Burlington; twelve grandchildren and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Lois, infant brother and two grandchildren.
