A Mass of Christian Burial for Diane Spicher, 82, of Kalona, will be held Monday, December 28, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Richmond with Father David Brownfield officiating. Burial will follow at the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 27 at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona begining with a Rosary and Prayer Vigil at 3:00 pm. and going until 5:30 p.m. The body will be cremated prior to visitation. A memorial fund for the Breast Cancer Society has been established. Diane Spicher died Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at the University of Iowa Hospital.
Diane Kay (Stumpf) Spicher was born January 6, 1933 in Richmond, IA, the daughter of Albert and Alice (Kos) Stumpf. She attended Kalona High School and on February 20, 1954 she was united in marriage to Raymond Spicher at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Richmond. Diane was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and enjoyed painting, reading, gardening, cooking, baking, playing cards and spending time with her family.
Survivors include seven children: Dawn Spicher of Kalona, IA, Robin (Jerry) McLaughlin of Gaithersburg, MD, Valerie Spicher of Lawrence, KS, Cindy (Rick) Surly of Kalona, IA, Crystal (Jim) Freese of Riverside, IA, Andrew (Shelia) Spicher of Prior Lake, MN, Barry (Amy) Spicher of Iowa City, IA, 12 grandchildren: Katrina Surly, Jason McLaughlin, Adam Surly, Melissa McLaughlin, Amanda McLaughlin, Mark Surly, Kate Freese, Nick Spicher, Allie Spicher, Stone Spicher, Zach Spicher, Jade Spicher, seven great grandchildren: Petra, Claire, Wesley, Echo, Charlotte, Sabien and Owen, and seven siblings: Mary Ann Mellinger, Lola (Lee) Hogan, Pat Beranek, Barb (Sherwood) Strickler, Jean Westerbeck, Judy (Vere) Allen and Sally Hamilton.
Preceding Diane in death were her parents, her husband Raymond on December 1, 2010, and six siblings.
