Funeral services for Delane E. Craig, 78 of Washington, will be held Friday, March 4, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home on Friday. A graveside service will be held Friday, March 4 at 4:00 p.m. at the Evergreen Cemetery in Wesley, Iowa. Delane Craig died Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at Windmill Manor in Coralville.
Delane Everett Craig was born January 19, 1938 in Ducktown, TN., the son of John and Reathel (Cole) Craig. He worked on high lines for 50 years for LE Meyers in Chicago and Marshalltown. On January 1, 1957 he was united in marriage to DeLores Monson in Ainsworth, Iowa. The couple lived in Washington all their married life and owned and operated The Chocolate Shop in Washington and Delano's in Ainsworth and Brighton. Delane was a member of the IBEW Union and in his earlier years was a golden glove boxer. After he couldn't box anymore he trained younger boxers.
Survivors include his wife DeLores of Washington, a brother, Darrell (Brenda) Craig of Bluegrass, Iowa, a sister, Helen Bowman of Missouri and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Delane in death were his parents and two brothers, Zane and Rosmond "Peewee" Craig and one sister, Delores Stepp.
