A celebration of life for Dean E. Steckly, 85 of North English, formerly of Kalona, will be held Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 6:30PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona with Father David Brownfield and Deacon Derick Cranston officiating. Cremation will follow the service and private family burial will be held at a later date. Visitaiton will be held Thursday, October 26 from 3 – 6 PM. The family requests casual attire.
A memorial fund has been established for Essence of Life Hospice of Amana. Dean E. Steckly died Monday, October 23, 2017 at the English Valley Care Center in North English.
Dean Edward Steckly was born August 19, 1932 in Johnson County the son of Sam R. and Ida (Brenneman) Steckly. He graduated from Iowa City High and served in the United States Air Force from 1952 – 1954. On August 18, 1956 he was united in marriage to Mary Cahill at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City. Dean was a farmer, truck driver and bus driver. He enjoyed all sports, NASCAR, watching old westerns, going to the farm and helping with harvest.
Survivors include his wife Mary of Kalona, seven children: Denise (Todd) Miller of Kalona, Diane McCormick of Olin, Patty (Brian) Coppess of Urbandale, William Dean (Lisa) Steckly of Wellman, Sara (Mike) Hammen of Keota, Sam Steckly of Wellman, Mike (Jen) Steckly of North English, 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren,
Preceding Dean in death were his parents, two sisters: Lavern Loucks and Arlie Donovan, two brothers: Rollin Steckly and Dale Steckly and a son-in-law Bruce McCormick.
