A memorial service for David D. Unternahrer, 64 of Wayland will be held Monday, June 2, 2014 at 1:30 PM at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church in rural Wayland with Pastor Nathan Luitjens officiating. A private family burial will be held prior to the service at the Wayland Cemetery. Visitation with viewing will be held Sunday, June 1, 2014 from 4 – 6 PM at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church. David Unternahrer died Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at his home in Wayland. A general memorial fund has been established.
David Dean Unternahrer was born June 18, 1949 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa the son of Noah and Barbara E. (Wenger) Unternahrer. He graduated from Iowa Mennonite School in 1967 and was a farmer for the majority of his life. On December 20, 1975 he was united in marriage to Janis Boshart in Wayland, Iowa. David was a member of the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church and enjoyed auctions, gardening and restoring antique furniture.
Survivors include his wife Janis of Wayland, one brother; Ronald (Ingrid) Unternahrer of Stroudsburg, PA, three sisters: Kathryn (Charlie) Smith of Nappanee, IN, Rosetta (David) Koerner of Kalona, IA, Esther (Chuck) Amstutz of Orrville, OH, one sister in law; Hortensia Unternahrer of Wayland, IA, one brother in law; Edward (Loretta) Boshart of Cedar Rapids, IA, thirteen nieces and nephews: Susanna U-Zook, Jennifer and Eric Unternahrer, Christopher Smith, Heidi Ogles, Jay and Neil Unternahrer, Mark Amstutz, Melody Schlabach, Joel and Jonathan Koerner and Steven and Sarah Boshart, and a number of great nieces and nephews.
Preceding David in death were his parents, one brother; Norman Unternahrer, a nephew; Aaron Boshart, a great niece; Hazel Smith and a great nephew; Luke Walker.
