David Plank

November 8, 1923 — April 21, 2016

A celebration of life for David B. Plank, 92, of Kalona will be held Monday, April 25, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the East Union Mennonite Church in rural Kalona, with Pastor Joel Beachy officiating.  Burial will follow at the East Union Mennonite Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Sunday, April 24 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for Iowa City Hospice and the East Union Mennonite Church.  Dave Plank died Thursday, April 21, 2016 at his home in Kalona.

David Benjamin Plank was born November 8, 1923 in McGrawsville, Indiana, the son of George D. and Fanny (Herschberger) Plank.  He graduated from 8th grade at Rosedale School in Moultrie County, Illinois.  Dave and Doris Slaubaugh were united in marriage on June 30, 1950 at the East Union Mennonite Church.  He worked as a parts manager in Iowa City at Vertrees Motor Company and Hartwig Motors.  After retiring he purchased Cleo Troyer's Auto Parts store and owned that for over five years. Dave was  member of the East Union Mennonite Church and was instrumental in starting a support group at Pleasantview for families dealing with Alzheimer's.  He enjoyed volunteering at Pleasantview, working with computers, and spending time with his grandchildren.  Dave loved to fix and design all types of things, including the first portable air conditioner units for automobiles, and his most recent endeavor; operating Dave's Battery Shop out of his living room.

Survivors include his daughter Linda (Loren) Huber, two grandchildren: Chris (Shawna) Huber and Terri (Mike) Adam and four great grandchildren: Audrey and Ethan Huber and Jonathan and Andrew Adam all of Wellman, three sisters: Ella Stutzman and Irma (Dannie)Diener of Arthur, Illinois, Sarah Plank of Sun City Center, Florida, and one brother, Irwin Plank of Harlan, Indiana.

Preceding Dave in death were his parents, his wife Doris, an infant sister and one brother, John Plank.
