David Allen Custer

David Allen Custer, 70 of Wayland, died Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at his home in Wayland.

 

Visitation will be Sunday, March 6, 2022 from 4-6:00 PM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington.  There will be a Private Burial.  A Celebration of his life will be 11:00 AM Monday, March 7, 2022 at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington, with a light lunch for family afterward. A general memorial in the name of David Allen Custer has been established.

 

David was born February 2, 1952 in Pennington Co. South Dakota the son of Robert David and Frances Cecil (Schantz) Custer. He was united in marriage to Sandra Dee Blodgett, June 5, 1971 at the First Chistian Church in Washington. Dave and Sandy celebrated 50 years together last summer.

 

David was employed with Crane Valve for 35 years where he served many fellow laborers as Chairman of he Local 359 Union of Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics and Allied Workers International Union ALF-CIO, CLC; and he retired from Rockwell Collins in Iowa City in 2016. He honorably served in the United States Army Reserves.   David enjoyed attending his grandchildren's events, taking many trips across the state to watch their sporting and musical events, as well as competitive fishing where he and Randy Brock earned the 1994 Season Points Champions title at the Central Missouri Jackpot Division. He also achieved the IN Bass Team Tournaments National Championship Points Champion of the Traveling Division at Table Rock Lake in 1997.  In his early days, David enjoyed slow-pitch softball. David was a Master in Good Standing of the Adoniram Lodge 120 and a member of the Wayland O.E.S. Number 494 where he served as Worthy Patron in 1985; and the First Christian Church in Murry, NE and Washington.

 

Survivors include his wife Sandra of Wayland, daughters, Amy Sara (Chris) Richardson of Ainsworth, Jamie (John) Moeller of Keota, and Katie Custer of Wellman; sisters, Roberta Bush of Keota and Terry (J.P.) Van Sickle of Keota; grandchildren, Jacob Moeller, Justin Moeller, Jackson Phillips, Max Phillips, Luke Moeller, Emily Moeller, Caroline Richardson and Darrin Richardson.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents.
