Daniel E. “Danny” Yoder, 90, passed from this life on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospital following a brief illness. A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the Fairview Mennonite Church. The service will be available via live stream at the Beatty Peterseim Facebook and YouTube pages. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024, from 3 – 5 and 6 – 8 PM at Fairview. A memorial fund has been established for Fairview Mennonite Church, Pleasantview Home, and Mennonite Disaster Service. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Daniel Eugene was born December 5, 1933, in Kalona, the son of Frank and Elva (Kauffman) Yoder. He attended East Lincoln Rural School. Danny served in 1W service in Michigan as a dairy tester. On May 23, 1954, he was united in marriage to Amelia Swantz at the Fairview Mennonite Church. Danny was a farmer all of his life. He was a member of the Fairview Mennonite Church, where he served in many capacities, including being the sexton for the cemetery for many years. Danny was very involved with the Mennonite Disaster Service and served as state coordinator for 17 years. He enjoyed chatting with folks, eating ice cream, and sharing his sense of humor with everyone.
Survivors include his daughter Jane (Kent) (Hershberger) Widmer of Iowa City, son Lowell Yoder of Kalona; three grandchildren: Nicole (Matthew) Costello of Durand, WI, Michael Hershberger of Kalona and Joshua Widmer of Williamsburg, two great-granddaughters: Lydia and Holland Costello; and sister-in-law Susie Yoder Hostetler of Kalona.
Preceding Danny in death were his parents, his wife Amelia in 2013, daughter Carol in 1958, son-in-law Delwyn Hershberger, one sister Mary Yoder, and three brothers: an infant, and Delmar and L. David (Leona) Yoder, and his nephew Leon Yoder.
