Dale A. Nebel, 89 of Wayland, died Wednesday, June 15, 2005 at the Henry County Hospital in Mt. Pleasant following declining health.
Funeral Services have been set for 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 18, 2005 at the Eicher Mennonite Church near Wayland with the Rev. Herb Yoder and Rev. Chuck Visser officiating. Burial will be in the Eicher Cemetery. Visitation will begin at Noon Friday at the Eicher Church with family receiving friends from 5-7:00 P.M. Beatty Funeral Home in Wayland is assisting with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to either the Parkview Home or the Eicher Cemetery Association.
Mr. Nebel was born February 9, 1916 in Olds, Iowa the son of Daniel W. and Alice Ida (Roth) Nebel. He was baptized in the Eicher Mennonite Church by Rev. Henry J. Schrag in 1930.
He graduated from Wayland High School and attended Iowa Wesleyan College, Iowa State Teachers College, University of Iowa, Drake University and received his Doctoral in Education from the University of Northern Colorado.
His professional career involved teaching elementary school at Stringtown, West Lincoln in Johnson Co., Junior High in Wayland, Principal at Eagle Grove and Hoover School in Mason City. He continued with higher education as instructor at North Central Community College, instructor in College of Education, University of Northern Colorado, Assistant Professor/Associate Professor of Education at Bethel College in North Newton, KS, Associate Professor in College of Education, University of Northern Colorado, Adjunct Professor of Linguistics, University of Wyoming and Professor Emeritus of Elementary Education at the University of Northern Colorado.
Dale was a member of the Eicher Mennonite Church and served as Director of MCC relief units in China and the Philippines from 1946-1949. He also was the Far East Area Director of MCC relief work from 1953-1954.
Following retirement Dale moved back to Wayland. He enjoyed family geology and his pets.
Survivors include one brother Raymond Nebel and wife Joyce of West Chester, IA and one sister Kathryn Stoops of Wayland, sister-in-law Hattie Nebel of Wayland and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Milton, Arthur Rex or “Jimmie” and Billey, one sister Lorene Graber Meyer.
