A celebration of life for Dale D. Garrett, 87 of Wayland will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 11:00AM at Finley Chapel in rural Wayland with Pastor Betsey Sue Niepert officiating. Burial will follow at the Finley Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 28 from noon until 7PM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington where the family will greet friends from 5-7PM. A memorial fund has been established for the Finely Cemetery Association. Dale Garrett died Saturday, May 25, 2013 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Dale Duane Garrett was born March 11, 1926 in Giltner, Nebraska, the son of A.F. and Emma (Bailey) Garrett. He graduated from high school in Kewanee, Illinois. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1950 – 1952. On June 17, 1956 he was united in marriage to Carol Boese at Finley Chapel. Dale was a farmer and after retirement he and Carol delivered wood splitters all over the country. He was a member of Finley Chapel and was an accomplished woodworker and farm equipment fabricator. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his kids and grandkids and was known to be a patient teacher.
Survivors include his wife Carol of Wayland, three sons; Thomas Dale (Teri) Garrett of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Curt (Tina) Garrett of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Mark (Karen) Garrett of Wayland, Iowa, one daughter; Beth (David) Wirka of Wahoo, Nebraska, nine grandchildren and one brother; Ronald Garrett of Alton, Illinois.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents and one brother;
