Connie Barthelman

Connie M. Barthelman, 78, of Kalona, died peacefully Sunday, December 6, 2020, at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona. A private family graveside service will be held Thursday, December 10, 2020 at 2:00 PM at the Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona. The service will be available via Livestream at the Beatty Peterseim Facebook Page. A memorial fund has been established for the Pleasantview Home building fund.

Connie M (Grimm) Barthelman was born March 6, 1942 in Des Moines, Iowa the daughter of Ernest and Kathleen Fern (Wheatcraft) Grimm. She graduated from Searsboro High School and attended college at Mt. Vernon Foursquare Bible College in Ohio. On January 25, 1963, she was united in marriage to Melvin “Mel” Barthelman in Des Moines, Iowa. Connie was a homemaker while her children were very young and then went on to work 20 plus years at the University of Iowa Elementary Education Department. She loved going on road trips searching for antiques. Connie was an awesome baker and gardener, and she loved the Iowa Hawkeyes, and her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include four children: Kim (Brenda) Barthelman of Kalona and children Colton (and fiancé Skyler) and Mitchell; Kelli (Jeff) Pitz of Dubuque and children Jessica Pitz, Caleb (Brittany) Pitz, Tyler Pitz, and Christi Pitz; Scott (Kimberly) Barthelman of Kalona and children Jared (Molly), Justin (Olivia), Brody (Katie), Ciarra (Joaquin) Gonzalez and Anna (Luka) Papike; Troy (Heather) Barthelman of Sigourney and children Autum, Summer and Rain; 15 great-grandchildren and four on the way; siblings: Richard (Pam) Grimm of Wellman, Dennis (Mary) Grimm of Kalona, Donna (Larry) Swartzendruber of Kremling, CO, Shirley (John) Helmuth of Kalona, sisters-in-law: Sharon Grimm of Amana, Pam Barthelman (Dick) McGriff and brother-in-law Charles (Willie) Barthelman.

Preceding Connie in death were her parents, her stepmother Shirley, her husband Mel, two brothers: Bob Grimm and Charles Grimm.
