Mrs. Clara Marie Ayer, 91 of Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, January 24, 2003 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 28, 2003 at the Downing Cemetery in Downing, Missouri with the Rev. David Plooster officiating. Visitation will be at 9:00 A.M. Monday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with family receiving friends from 5:30 till 7:00 in the evening. Memorials in the name of Clara Marie Ayer may be made to Park Place or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Clara was born February 26, 1911 near Downing Missouri the daughter of James Sterling and Anna Eliza (Carrol) Craig. On November 16, 1929 she was united in marriage to Virgil Ayer in Eldora, Iowa.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant. She was employed at Motorola, Iowa Wesleyan College, Statts Ribbons and after retirement helped her daughter operate a motel in Heber Springs, AR. In 2000 she moved to Park Place in Mt. Pleasant. Clara enjoyed gardening, sewing, crafts and refinishing furniture.
Survivors include, one sister, Peggy Chadwick of Ottumwa, IA, two grandsons, Bob Anderson and wife Marjorie of Heber Springs, AR and Terry Anderson and wife Linda of Mt. Pleasant and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Virgil, November 8, 1981 and daughter, Peggy Anderson.
