Cindy J. Chorpening, 59 of Washington, died Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at her home following a brief battle with colon cancer. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Cindy's name has been established for the University of Iowa Children's Hospital or the family's choice. Beatty Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.
Cindy Joy Chorpening was born August 31, 1952 in Ft. Riley, Kansas, the daughter of Warren "Jay" and Phyllis (Hermanstorfer) Warren. She graduated from Keota High School in 1970 and attended community college where she studied to be a dietician. Cindy worked in the dietary department at the Washington Care Center for many years, and most recently at the Washington County Hospital until her health deteriorated in July of this year. She was united in marriage to Dave Chorpening, Sr. on April 17, 1992 in Washington. Cindy volunteered for the American Legion, and enjoyed cooking, rescuing animals; including squirrels and cats, reading the Bible, gardening and collecting penguins. Her passion in life was caregiving in both her personal and professional life.
Suvrivors include her husband, Dave Chorpening, Sr. of Washington, IA, seven children, Angie Reighard of Nevada, IA, David Chorpening, Jr. of Washington, IA, Lea Reighard of Springfield, MO, Chris and wife Tanya Reighard of Washington, IA, Shawn Chorpening of Iowa City, IA, Aaron Chorpening of Cedar Rapids, Tracy Chorpening of Cedar Falls, IA, eight grandchildren, Blake, Zach, Jake, Matt, Sami, Justus, Shaylea and Cole. Also surviving are her parents, Jay and Phyllis Warren of Deming, NM.
Preceding Cindy in death was her first husband, Randy Reighard.
