Cherie Sapp

July 18, 1938 — August 14, 2005

Cherie Lynn Gingerich Sapp, 67 of Washington, died Sunday, August 14, 2005 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Funeral Services have been set for 2:00 P.M. Friday, August 19, 2005 at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with Minister Rick Bremel officiating. Cremation will follow the service and interment will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will begin at Noon Thursday at the Funeral Home with family present from 6-8:00 in the evening. A memorial in the name of Cherie Sapp has been established in her name.


Cherie was born July 18, 1938 in Washington, Iowa the daughter of Ernest J. and Olive Helen (Kimmel) Leyden. She was united in marriage to Rex Eugene Gingerich August 19, 1954 in Washington, Iowa.


Cherie was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Washington. She lived in Peoria, IL, West Branch, IA, Ankeny, IA, and Ainsworth, IA returning last year to Washington. Cherie was a nurse’s aid and homemaker and enjoyed her dogs and flowers.


Survivors include children, David Eugene Gingerich of Phoenix, AZ, Daniel Lee Gingerich of New Boston, IL, Linda Marie Bowman and husband Herb of West Branch, IA, Donald Howard Gingerich of Cincinnati, OH, John Dean Gingerich and wife Lorena of West Branch, IA, Debra Lynn Gingerich of Brooklyn, IA and Dennis Allen Gingerich of North Liberty, IA, brothers, Phil Leyden and wife Sally of Washington, Kim Leyden and wife Joan of Washington, Jim Leyden and wife Donna of Riverside, IA, Roger Leyden and wife Linda of Washington, Mike Leyden and wife Jane of Washington and Eric Leyden and wife Ronda of Washington, sisters, Katie Sulzner and husband Keith of Arizona, Ina Rae and Edward Geppa of Wilton, IA, Jean Slickers and husband John of Waterloo, IA, and Treva Kilgore of Washington and her mother Olive Leyden of Washington; twenty grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her father, sister Mary Ann Davidson and granddaughter Jasmin.


"Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgement."
