Carol Swiggum

July 15, 1937 — September 26, 2010

Carol Dorothy Swiggum, 73 of Mission, TX died Sunday, September 26, 2010 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City following a brief illness while visiting her daughter in Riverside, IA.



A Celebration of Carol’s life will be held 5:00 PM Tuesday, September 28 2010 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington with Pastor Al Kruse officiating. Her body has been cremated and there will services later this week in Fargo, ND. Beatty Funeral Home in Washington is assisting with local arrangements. Memorial in the name of Carol Dorothy Swiggum may be designated to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.



Carol was born July 15, 1937 in Moorhead, MN the daughter of Henry and Carrie (Poppinga) Baker. She graduated from Moorhead High School and was united in marriage to James (Jim) I. Swiggum on January 16, 1959 at the Pontoppidan Lutheran Church in Fargo.



She was a member of the Pontoppidan Lutheran Church in Fargo, the Blue Lake Chic’s and a Book Club. She was a homemaker and worked in the bakery at Hornbachers. Carol and her husband became winter Texans 12 years ago spending the summers at Pelican Lake, MN and winters in Mission, TX, stopping in Iowa for a visit when traveling back and forth.



Survivors include her husband Jim of Mission, TX, daughters, Cyndi Kindred and friend Kevin Hook of Riverside, IA and Jamie Paulsen and husband Mike of Fargo, ND; sisters, Leona Jacobsen and husband Wayne of Moorhead, MN, Charlotte Rix and husband James of Moorhead, MN and Linda Ward of San Diego, CA; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Larry and Norman, two sisters, Ruth and Mary Ann and son in law Billie Kindred.
