Carol Margaret Boyd

Carol Boyd, 96, of Kalona, passed suddenly at her home on Saturday, January 4, 2025. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the Holy Trintiy Catholic Church with Fr. Bill Roush officiating. The service will be available via Livestream at the Beatty Peterseim Facebook and YouTube pages. Burial will follow at Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 14, 2025, from 2:30 – 6 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona, where a rosary will be recited at 2:30 PM. A memorial fund has been established for the Kalona Volunteer Fire Department and the Kalona First Responders. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family. 

Carol Margaret (Stumpf) Boyd was born December 25, 1928, in Kalona, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Gertrude (Sommers) Stumpf. She graduated from Kalona High School. After high school Carol worked as a sales clerk at Reif’s Department Store, in downtown Kalona, where she worked with a young man named J.D. Boyd. After dating for a few years, they married on October 26, 1949, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Rectory. The couple celebrated 75 years of marriage last October. Carol continued working at Reif’s after marriage, taking a brief break while raising their five children, then working for the City of Kalona, and returning to Reif’s until the store closed due to a fire. She then worked at the Village Shop until the age of 89. Carol was a lifelong member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir and belonged to the Catholic Order of Foresters, serving as the group's treasurer for many years. She was a member of OptiMrs and quilting in groups in Wellman and Cedar Rapids. Quilting was a passion of Carol’s and she also enjoyed puzzles, cooking, gardening, playing cards, and Iowa Hawkeye sports, taking many Am Vets bus trips to Iowa away games. 

Survivors include her husband J.D. of Kalona; four children: Sonja Triggs of Kalona, Greg (Connie) Boyd of Iowa City, Ron (Jonnine) Boyd of Kalona, Diana Kvach of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren: Lara (Drew) Henderson, Alyson (Cam) Cecil, Danielle (Kyle) Johnson and Jayci Kvach; and four great-grandchildren: Boyd, Theo, Faye, and Weston.

Preceding Carol in death were her parents, her daughter Rhonda in 2007, sister Marie Brenneman, and son-in-law Gary Triggs
