Carmella (Carl) J. Byler was born in Lancaster, New York. He was the son of John A. and Amanda Knepp Byler. Carl attended rural schools. He worked most of his working days as a laborer. He had lived in Chicago for many years and moved to the Marengo area a few years ago. After suffering health problems he spent the past 3 years at Parkview Manor in Wellman. Carl passed away at Mercy Hospital on June 19 following a bout with pneumonia and a heart attack. Carl is survived by two sisters; Ella May Riehl of Asuncion, Paraguay and Irene Helmuth of Mechanicsburg, Ohio, and one brother and sister-in-law, John and Martha Byler of South Bend, Indiana. Carl was preceded in death by his parents and seven brothers and sisters; Leslie Byler, Leona Yoder, Mary Jane Hershberger, Dorothy Miller, Henry Ivan Byler, Vernon Byler and Vera Byler. A general memorial fund has been established in Carl's honor.
