Carl Johnson

Carl L. Johnson, 92 formally of Hillsboro died Wednesday, January 1, 2003 at Donnellson Care Center following declining health.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 Saturday, January 4, 2003 at St. Johns Catholic Church in Houghton. IA with the Rev. Fr. Dennis Hoffman celebrant. Burial will be in the St. Johns Cemetery. Rosary Service will be recited at 3:00 P.M. and a Wake Service at 7:00 at the St. Johns Catholic Church Friday, January 3, 2003. Memorials may be made to the St. Johns Catholic Church. Beatty Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant is assisting with the arrangements.

Carl was born March 4, 1910 in Lockridge, Iowa the son of Peter J. and Dorothy (Nelson) Johnson. He was united in marriage January 9, 1937 to Martha Mary Kathryn Stukerjuergen at Houghton, Iowa.

He was a member of the St. Johns Catholic Church in Houghton, Charter member of the Knights of Columbus in Houghton and member of the Houghton Senior Citizens. He worked for the railroad, Jefferson County Home and farmed from 1940 until his retirement in 1972. He enjoyed watching sports especially Cardinal baseball, playing cards, friends and family.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry Johnson and wife Barb of Salem, IA and Patrick Johnson and wife Laurie of Santa Rosa, CA; three daughters, Phyllis Morris and husband Bob of South Beloit, IL, Maureen Busta and husband Bill of New Hampton, IA and Judy Friedman and husband Mark of Peoria, Il; sister in laws, Vera Johnson of Fairfield, IA and Dorothy Johnson of Mt. Pleasant, IA; thirteen grandchildren and fourteen grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife February 8, 2002; one son Eugene; four brothers and four sisters.
