Billie Dean Kindred of Riverside died Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Funeral Services have been set for 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington with Pastor Tim Davison officiating. Burial will be in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Monday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington where family will be receiving friends from 5-8:00 in the evening. Beatty Funeral Home in Washington is assisting with arrangements. A Memorial in the name of Billie Kindred has been established for the Church, State and Industry Foundation which helps provides scholarships for military chaplain candidates.
Billie Dean Kindred was born on April 1, 1950 in Washington, Iowa the son of Billie Oliver and Bea (Gingerich) Kindred. He graduated from Mid Prairie High School in 1968 and attended Ellsworth College until joining the United States Army where he served in the Vietnam War for two years. He was united in marriage to Terry Sue Custer and the couple later divorced. He married Cyndi Swiggum in Fargo, ND on October 9, 1982.
Bill worked at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City for 25 years and retired from the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud, MN in 1997.
Bill attended Immanuel Luthern Church in Washington, was a member of the Gold Wing Association, The VFW, the Disabled American Veteran’s and the American Legion. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, camping, hunting, fishing, spending time with his family and friends and he loved to pick on the people he loved.
Survivors include his wife Cyndi of Riverside, three sons, Billie David and wife Shannon Kindred of Keota, Chad and wife Kim Kindred of Keota, Joshua Kindred and special friend Michelle Mohr of Odenton, Maryland, five grandchildren, Taylor, Colton and Billie, Jr., Chase and Carsin Kindred. Also surviving are his mother, Bea and husband Don Gardner of Mesa, AZ, father, Billie Oliver and wife Judy Kindred of McGregor, IA., Father and mother in law, Jim and Carol Swiggum of Mission, TX, one brother Steven and wife Deb Kindred ,one sister, Rhonda Chorpening and a grandmother, Helen Dickerson all of Washington.
Preceding Bill in death were his grandparents.
