Betty Stigers

Betty J. Stigers, 74 of Washington, died Saturday, February 9, 2008 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a short illness.

Celebration of her life will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Fred Bickhart officiating. Burial will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery. Visitation will begin at Noon Tuesday at the Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6-8:00 PM in the evening. Memorials in the name of Betty J. Stigers may be designated to the American Diabetes Association or Relay for Life.

Betty was born January 18, 1934 in Fairfield, IA the daughter of Earnest and Beatrice (Winters) Crawford. She was united in marriage to Fred Stigers on September 12, 1953 in Davenport, IA.

She was a mother and house wife and also worked at the Washington Care Center and was waitress at several restaurants. She enjoyed fishing, watching the Cubs, word puzzles and sewing.

Survivors include her husband Fred of Washington, children Ron Stigers and wife Lori of Cloquet, MN, Dan Stigers and wife Deb of Washington, Fran Stigers of Washington, Pam Calhoun and husband Brian of Manson, WA and Paula Kirfman and husband Dave of Ottumwa, IA; siblings, Crystal Barber and husband Leo of Keosauqua, IA, Shirley Knerr and husband Richard of Wellman, IA, Mary Knerr and husband Larry of Washington, John Crawford and wife Shirley of Fairfield, IA, Margret Crawford of West Chester, Tom Crawford of Wharton, TX and Helen Gohn and husband Oliver of Fairfield, IA; eleven grandchildren Amy Davidson, Kate Stigers, Michell Burlingame, Randi Edmonds, Stevie Stigers, Alex Stigers, Rikki Stigers, Vanessa Calhoun, James Calhoun, Joshua Calhoun and Fred Kirfman; four great-grandchildren, Matthew Davidson, James Stigers, Jastin Burlingame and Nathaniel Edmunds.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Harold Crawford (MIA in Korea) sisters, Alvina Knerr, Eva Hiller and Virginia Letts, infant children Debbie and James.
