Betty Hootman. 85, of Washington, died Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. A memorial fund has been established for Paws & More Animal Shelter. A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Sandy Hook Cemetery in Brighton, Iowa.
Betty Jean was born January 19, 1932 in Brighton, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Vera (Hesseltine) DeWolf. She graduated from Brighton High School and worked in housekeeping at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington, and as a para educater at the Washington Middle School for five years. On September 9, 1950 she was united in marriage to Charles Hootman in Fairfield, Iowa. During Chuck's career in the USAF she enjoyed traveling around the world, seeing new places and meeting new people. She enjoyed dogs and loved to feed the dogs at the McCreedy Home.
Survivors include two sons: Michael Hootman and partner Anucha Onongard of Seattle, WA., Jeff (Shelley) Hootman of Iowa City, two brothers: Dean (Sandy) DeWolf and Gary (Helen) DeWolf all of Washington, two sisters: Linda (Frank) Glandon of Oskaloosa, IA., and Connie (Dick) Humston of Washington, IA, and a sister-in-law Katherine DeWolf of Tuscon, AZ.
Preceding Betty in death were her parents, her husband Charles Hootman, a sister Joan DeWolf, and a brother Donald DeWolf.
