Betty Jean Essex, 85 of Wellman died Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Parkview Manor, Wellman. Betty Jean was born in rural Wellman, Iowa onAugust 9, 1928, the daughter of Amelius and Dorothy (Rensberger) Eash.
She was raised in the Wellman community and attended rural school. She was married to William Pistole, Floyd Doshier and James Essex. The all preceded her in death.
Betty Jean enjoyed life and was a devoted grandmother. Fishing, playing bingo and other games and hard work were also part of her life.
Surviving Betty Jean are her children, daughter Shirley(Kevin) Hochstedler of Iowa City, and son Samuel Pistole of Dallas, Texas. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren, Jessica Hochstedler (Karsten) Yoder of Iowa City, Laurie Pistole of Carolltown, Texas and Lee Pistole, 2 great grandchildren, Kelyn Yoder and Jason Yoder, a sister-in-law, Ada Mae Eash of Wellman and nieces and nephews.
Betty Jean was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, LaMont Eash and Maynard Eash and her husbands.
Betty Jean's family wishes to thank Parkview Manor for the loving care given her during her time with them. They are special.
Memorial gifts may be directed to Parkview Manor or West Union Mennonite Church.
Graveside services will be Monday, December 30 at 9:00 am in the Maplewood Cemetery in Harrison, Arkansas.
Beatty-Peterseim Funeral Homes are assisting the family with arrangements.
