A celebration of life for Bessie E. Fisher Robins, 91, of Washington will be held Monday, June 9, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with Sharon Benell officiating, burial will follow at the Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 8 with the family present from 5-7 PM at the Beatty Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Washington County. Bessie E. Robins died Friday, June 6, 2014 at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington.
Bessie E. (Martin) Fisher Robins was born November 20, 1922 in Washington, IA, the daughter of William and Iva (Wallace) Martin. She was united in marriage to Robert Fisher on April 12, 1942. The couple farmed in the Keota community. Robert died on January 12, 1973. On August 13, 1988 Bessie married Elzie Robins. Elzie died July 26, 1994. Bessie worked several years at Maplewood Manor in Keota and at the Washington Care Center until retirement. She was a member of the 76 Community Club in Keota. Bessie enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Yocum of Mt. Pleasant, two sons: Larry D. Fisher and John (Marjorie) Fisher of Washington, four grandchildren: Mark Yocum, Julie (Jason) Szedon, Jeremy (Tricia) Yocum and Nadira (Tommy) Ross, eight great grandchildren, and one sister, Ruth Carr of Kalona.
Preceding Bessie in death were her parents, her husband Robert Fisher, husband Elzie Robins, a son in law, David Yocum, two brothers, Floyd and Earl Martin and three sisters: Florence Jackson, Helen Brown and Jean Dunbar.
