Arnold "Arnie" Smith

Arnold “Arnie” Eugene Smith, 62, of Washington, IA died Monday, March 2, 2020 at Parkview home in Wayland.

A Celebration of Life service will be 10:30 AM Friday, March 6, 2020 at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. The family encourages everyone attending to wear their favorite sports apparel. Visitation will be held from 12:00-7:00 PM with the family present from 4:00-7:00 PM Thursday, March 5, 2020 at the Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at the Elm Grove Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the Rolling Panther Wheelchair Basketball Team.

Arnold Smith was born May 3, 1957, in Rock Island, IL, the son of Arnold and Rosemond (Edwards) Smith. Arnold graduated from Washington High School in 1975 and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa. He was united into marriage with Nancy Reneger on June 27, 1981 at the Bethel Mennonite Church. Arnold was an avid sports fan and loved the Hawkeyes. He was a referee for High School and College football, basketball, volleyball, softball and baseball for 30 years.

Arnold is survived by his wife Nancy of Washington, IA, children; Amy (Mark) Langr of Washington, IA,  Matthew Smith of Clive, IA, Amanda Smith of Washington, IA, siblings; Bob Smith of Washington, IA, Cindy Smith of Washington, IA, Sue Smith of Washington, IA, Bill Bragg of Ft. Meyer, FL, Julie Ingersoll of Lehigh Acres, FL, Karen Rheinschmidt, of Cape Coral, FL two grandchildren, Bethany and Charlotte.

Arnold was preceded in death by his parents and sister Laura Caraotta.
