A celebration of life for Anita E. Hesseltine, 98 of Washington will be held Friday, November 26, 2010 at 11:00AM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Rick Zickefoose officiating. Burial will follow at the Eicher Cemetery in rural Wayland. Visitation will be held from 9AM until service time on Friday. Anita Hesseltine died Sunday, November 21 at the University of Iowa Hospital following a brief illness. A memorial fund has been established for The American Legion.
Anita Elizabeth (Spenler) Hesseltine was born July 17, 1912 in Lamar, Missouri the daughter of Christian William and Margaret (Wittrig) Spenler. She graduated from Washington High School. She was united in marriage to Clarence Hesseltine in April of 1930. Anita was a devoted wife and mother and a member of the Wayland American Legion since 1945. She enjoyed fishing, needlework, gardening, spending time with her grandchildren and up until August of this year was still mowing the yard.
Survivors include three children and spouses, Lois Ann (Walter) Kaska of Morrison, CO, Robert (Marlene) Hesseltine of Iowa City, IA, Nelda Perkins of Waverly, IA, 21 grandchidren, 43 great grandchildren, and 19 great great grandchildren.
Preceding Anita in death were her parents, husband Clarence on December 20, 1988, one brother, Charles R. Spenler, a half brother, Louis L. Spenler and three sisters, Lois Magdafrau, Alice Strohm, and Christine Redeker.
