He attended rural schools in Illinois and Iowa. On February 20, 1944 he was united in marriage to Tillie Coblentz in Kalona. Andy was a member of Fairview Mennonite Church. He was the Founder of Kalona Implement as well as spent many years working Parts at the Wash. Co. Farm Store. Andy was a finish carpenter for the later part of his life. He had a passion for "creating" with wood. Andy was also in his glory singing harmony along with directing and teaching music. Singing in the men's chorus was a memory he spoke of frequently. As a passtime, Andy also took many under his wing sharing his wisdom of working with wood. Survivors include his children and their spouses, Virgil and wife Barb Slabaugh of Kalona, Treva and husband Harry Yoder of Hutchinson, KS, Brenda Slabaugh of Long Beach, CA, six grandchildren and spouses, Kim Gingerich, Shannon and wife Beth Slabaugh, Angie and husband Tim Bender, Brad and wife Shirley Yoder, Jeff and wife Lindsay Yoder, Dana and husband Randy Regehr, and 12 great grandchildren. Preceding Andy in death were his parents, his wife Tillie on October 22, 2005, one sister Ida Slabaugh, one brother, Menno Slabaugh and one grandson-in-law, Kermit Gingerich. A memorial fund has been established for the Fairview Mennonite Church. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to everyone for the many acts of love and support shown to them at this time of loss. .
