Alice Rosen

Mrs. Alice H. Rosen, 100, of rural Kalona, Iowa, died September 1, 2012 at Mercy Hospice Care, Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at the United Christian and Baptist Church at 401 E Avenue in Kalona, Iowa.  The family will greet friends prior to the service and following the service at time of fellowship.

Alice (Forshay Hunt) Rosen was born to Edward Hunt and Matilda Cashley Hunt in Jersey City, New Jersey on December 25, 1911. She grew up in Jersey City where she graduated from Lincoln High School in 1929 and New Jersey State Teachers College in 1933. She taught 4 ^th grade at a private school in New Jersey for several years and married Lt. Dave Rosen of the U.S. Army in 1935. Her husband's military career took her to many places including Japan and Germany in the 1950's. She lived a long, rich, and full life which encompassed all the major events of the Twentieth Century.

In 1973, after her husband's second retirement from a teaching career, Alice moved to Rural Kalona where she lived with him until his death in 1979. She remained in her home until several days before her death. In 2005, after she suffered a stroke and was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, her son David and his wife Sunday stayed with her to care for her in her home.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dave, her son Daniel, and by her parents, her two sisters, Hazel and Ruth and her brother Alvin. She is survived by her son David of rural Kalona and four grandchildren, Bambi Goldmark, Jeremy Rosen, and Dorian Rosen, all of Austin, Texas, and by Rachel Rosen of Guanajuato, Mexico.
