Alice Marie Ahmling, 83 of Washington died Thursday, January 25, 2007 at the Washington County Hospital following a long period of declining health.
Memorial Services have been set for 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with Rev. Sue Meade officiating. Her body has been cremated and will be interred at the Elm Grove Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Wednesday with family receiving friends one hour prior to the service time. Memorials in the name of Alice Marie Ahmling may be designated to the Video Ministry at the United Methodist Church. As she always enjoyed the Monday night cable broadcast of the Sunday worship and always looked to see who was in the congregation.
Alice was born July 9, 1923 in Crawfordsville, Iowa the daughter of Roy Melville and Singne (Lindbloom) Finke. She attended Prairie Flower Rural School and graduated from Washington High School and Washington Junior College. She was employed as a secretary at Stewart School and as a billing clerk for Iowa Southern Utilities. On August 22, 1957 she was united in marriage to Magnus Ahmling at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Washington. Following her marriage, she joined him on the farm in the Grace Hill area. Following his death in 1976, she returned to Washington and had made her home at Halcyon House for the last six years.
She was a member of Washington United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Farm Bureau Women and the Washington Historical Society.
Survivors include her sisters Clara Johnson of Iowa City and Lucille Miller of Washington; ten nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Magnus, three brothers, Everette, William and Ellis Finke.
