Janie Meyer

November 21, 1944 — July 3, 2009

Janie Meyer, 64 of Cedar Rapids, Iowa formally of Wayland, died Friday, July 3, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church in rural Wayland, with Pastor Bob Hartzler officiating. Visitation will be held at Sugar Creek Mennonite Church, from 2-7PM on Tuesday, July 7, with the family present from 4-7PM.

Janie was born in November 21, 1944 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Joseph and Wanda (Smiddy) Konecki. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Nauvoo, IL and had a degree in music from Wartburg College and an Elementary Education Degree from Iowa Wesleyan College.

On June 12, 1966 she was united in marriage to LeRoy Meyer. Janie was a substitute teacher for many years and taught the talented and gifted program at WACO.


She was a member of the Wayland Mennonite Church and the Literary Club in Cedar Rapids. Janie enjoyed china painting, music of all kinds, especially singing and playing the piano, entertaining and cooking, traveling, spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her mother, Wanda Brackey of Cedar Rapids, three children, Steve and wife Shawn Meyer of Marshalltown, IA., Beth and husband Brent Vander Molen of Sully, IA., Tim and wife Michelle Meyer of Wayland, IA., four grandchildren, Emma and Ella Meyer, Benjamin Vander Molen and Morgan Meyer, three step grandchildren, Ashley, Allie and Nick Wills, two sisters, Konnie Saliba and husband Dennis Reid of Cordova, TN., and Karen Springer of Bethal, CN., and special friend, Charlie Hoefer of Cedar Rapids.

Preceding Janie in death was her father, Joseph Konecki in 1952, step father, Marlin Brackey in 1995 and husband, LeRoy in 1999.

A general memorial fund has been established. Beatty Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
